After the logo and posters, we got round to sorting out the website.

With nothing to go on except the work I had done before, I set out by including elements from the latest poster, to create a floraly engraved ornamental type header. I wanted to mix an urban feel into it, so included some grungy stuff, and a bit of graffiti style writing.

Everyone is really happy with the site, myself included, I had to add a few features such as a google maps based spot guide, which was new to me, and I’ve also allowed people to register to post their own news, photos and videos, so hopefully over time the media page will start to fill up a bit!

I was contacted by Mariana of Madame Management to design a website for Stereo Addiction.

The guys were after a complete redesign for the site, something more modern and easier to update, so I decided to use WordPress as a CMS engine, using a few plugins I managed to get everything looking and working exactly how they want it.

Overall I’m chuffed with how this turned out. The last few projects I’ve done I can feel myself improving and I hope that this learning curve carries on the way it’s going.

With the skate park now complete we decided holding a Jam would be a good idea, so a poster needed to be designed to promote it.

Again I used Avant Garde to match the existing poster I created for Concrete Community. I used numerous stock vectors which were sourced online for the detail such as the background, and for adding a slight texture for the text. Although I thought all blue would be slightly overkill I’m happy with how it’s turned out. It’s my first “illustrative” piece.

Hopefully the jam will be a success, we will find out in a month!

I was contacted by Mariana of Madame Management to design a myspace for Heartbreakerz.

Using Franciso’s artwork as inspiration we came up with the following design. They wanted something simple, powerful, but still keeping a feminine touch, that ties into their existing branding.

I was very happy with this design, although it wasn’t the most difficult piece, it still employed some tricky techniques to pull off, and I wish the girls the very best of luck with their career.

After creating the logo and presenting it at a meeting, we had noticed a lack of people coming to the meetings so we decided to design a poster to try and get people to come along.

I chose Avant Garde for the typeface as it matches the logo, and I just love the way it can be used. It took me a number of hours to create the text, due to the complexity of the letter forms. The background was a mix of textures and brushes I found in various places online.

This poster is being used to promote the monthly meetings and is being put up in areas people populate in Weston-super-Mare such as skate parks, schools and youth cafes.

After finishing the last design of the site, we immediately started on V2. This involved a whole overhaul of the site, including the design, code, and the backend. We pretty much started from the ground up and reworked absolutely everything.

Once again I spent a lot of time converting existing designs into code, and I also had to design a number of pages myself. I also redesigned the whole site template, moving from a dated tables based design to a primarily div based layout. Cross browser compatibility was something I spent a long time concentrating on, especially getting the site working with IE 6.

There really is too much to display so I’d advise spending 5 minutes exploring the site.

I recently joined a local committee called Concrete Community. It had been started by the local skateboarders to try and form a driving force to push the council to improve the local skate park facilities.

We decided at one of the first meetings I attended that a logo needed to be made, so I put my name forward to create it. I used Avant Garde for the logo as it’s one of my favourite typefaces. I felt a simple logo would be best, and something that could easily be used on stickers, posters, and other media. I created a few different versions for different purposes.

Hopefully in the near future the logo will be being used for a number of things, including being engraved on a notice board at our first refurbished skate park.

Stephen and the team at ULMS were an awesome group of people to work with, they were a perfect client, giving me a good idea of what they wanted, and they also took my input on board and it wasn’t long before we had come up with a design we were both happy with. I worked on a few features which were new to me such as event listings and a gallery system, but the Wordpress system is so flexible and the community behind it is so active that I was able to find plugins which allowed me to make everything work just how I wanted. This project was finished just in time for the new term at university which made the team even happier.

I applied for the job at Muse Weddings and was offered a position as a designer and coder. I’ve worked on many aspects of the website, including the home, signup, and about pages. I’ve also helped with pages inside of the site, which included the design of a comment system.

Much of my work was converting existing designs into code for the website, this included the entire header, which was sent over to me as an image, which I then had to turn into a fully functional web element.

I am currently still working with the Muse Weddings team, and hopefully over the next few months we shall be rolling out more features which will make the experience even more enjoyable for our clientele.

Once again I used Wordpress to power the site. Built a custom theme with a few cheeky little hacks in place here and there to make it work how I wanted to. Overall I’m very happy with this project and it has provided me with the experience of working with another “real client”.
